Tutorial 1 Log

As ordained by Teach, I made a simple scene in unity.

The ships coming toward the camera are "Crossing the T" vs the ships moving away.

Barrels have been placed on the ships in a prefab fashion.

The headpiece is Monster - Download Free 3D model by rudolfs (@rudolfs) [bb37d9f] (sketchfab.com)

It came with a background cylinder. I had to assign a transparent material to get it to be hidden.

Self critique:

This was the first time I have opened unity since 2019. This should not be so.

I need to spend some time in the engine so that I don't have to google how to do things every second.

The meshes are casting shadows, I need to be able to cast dynamic shadows.

I need to figure out generated collision.

I should have been able to add simple controls to a ship for the player to move around with it. But I cannot remember where to start with this. (Add script to prefab - where it sets the location each frame?)

It would have been cool to have some particle effects for smoke coming out of the cannons. And some flying cannon balls would have been cool.

-- adendum

The shadow problem was caused by the scale in unity being insane (why is 1 unit so massive, everywhere else 1 unit is 1cm)
Also unity 2022 looks much better than 2019 by default.
